Six nights in Ho Chi Minh City is enough time to stop feeling overwhelmed and start feeling like you actually get it, but only if the first day or two goes toward getting oriented in Districts 1 and 3 before pushing out to Binh Thanh or District 4. The food rewards patience and repetition — skipping the tourist-facing spots on Bui Vien and eating where locals eat means sitting on a plastic stool at 7am in District 4 for bun mam or tracking down a banh mi cart near Tan Dinh Market where the line tells you everything you need to know. Most visitors burn their first two evenings on Bui Vien Street thinking that's the nightlife, when the better move is rooftop bars in District 1 for a drink, then following locals into the karaoke bars and late-night pho spots that come alive after midnight. The Cu Chi Tunnels are worth doing but go on a weekday and get there before 9am, because by mid-morning it's packed with tour groups and the experience flattens out. Grab cash early and often — a lot of the best street food and market stalls are still cash-only, and ATM fees add up fast if planning isn't sharp. Heat and humidity hit hard by mid-morning, so scheduling the most physically demanding parts of the day for early morning or after sundown is what separates a good trip from an exhausting one.
