In Prague, the Vinohrady and Žižkov neighborhoods are where the city actually lives, with art nouveau apartment blocks, local wine bars, and almost no tour groups, and an hour there tells you more about the place than a second lap around Charles Bridge ever will. Timing matters in both cities, and the Old Town squares in the morning before nine are genuinely different experiences than midday, so building that into the rhythm pays off considerably for photography. Most visitors to Krakow spend all their time in the Stare Miasto and Kazimierz and never cross the river to Podgórze, which is where the texture of the city's harder history sits, and where the streets and cafes feel less curated. The food in Krakow is underestimated across the board, and a sit-down lunch of żurek or bigos at a milk bar like Bar Mleczny Pod Temidą will cost almost nothing and taste better than most of what gets recommended to tourists. One practical note: the train between Prague and Krakow takes around eight hours, which suits a wanderer's pace just fine, but book a seat reservation ahead because the car fills up and standing that route is miserable.
