The curious explorer
Six nights is the right amount of time in Marrakech — enough to stop rushing and actually figure out where you are in the medina. The city rewards people who slow down and walk without a destination, especially in the northern quarter around Bab Taghzout where the crowds thin out and the streets feel less performative. Most visitors spend all their market time in Djemaa el-Fna and the souks right off it, which means they miss the mellah, the old Jewish quarter near the Royal Palace, where the covered market has a completely different atmosphere and the vendors are noticeably less aggressive. For day trips, Ourika Valley is the easy call and it earns it, but go on a weekday and leave Marrakech by 8am or you will spend half the day in traffic. The thing people consistently get wrong is the tanneries pitch — someone near Chouara will offer to take you to a leather shop with a "free" rooftop view, and that is fine, just know you are walking into a sales environment and plan accordingly. Bring cash in smaller bills because a lot of the best food and smaller stalls do not have reliable card setups, and bargaining in the souks is expected but starting at ten percent of the asking price is too low and just wastes everyone's time.
